Motorbike travels
My name is Dave Thomson, and this is my attempt to share some of the sights and experiences I've enjoyed whilst out and about on my bike.
I only began riding in 2008 at the tender age of 41 and was instantly hooked. My first bike was a 1998 Kawasaki ER5, which I bought from a friend for £300. It only had 7500 miles on the clock. I instantly set about increasing this substantially and by the time I sold it in 2010, it had 20,000 miles...but I still managed to sell it for £500!
At first, it was a case of getting used to the bike and finding some good roads around Edinburgh. As I started to get more familiar with local roads, I started going a little farther afield, but began to feel a need to have a reason to go somewhere instead of wandering aimlessly. I didn't want to ride the same roads over and over again, so what were my options?
My first step was to join a likeminded group. Traditional motorcycle clubs didn't appeal to me, but a quick search on the internet found a group via the meetup.com site, which caters for interest groups. It was there that I found the Central Scotland Bikers group and things started to get interesting.
Nowadays, I take part in half a dozen or so rallies a year, and generally put about 10,000 miles on the clock...and I don't even commute on the bike!
