2013 Round Britain Rally
This was my second year of entering this rally and I wanted to try and improve on my Bronze award from last year. I thought I could start by concentrating on visiting these landmarks on the way to other rallies, rather than Grim rides (with the exception of this year’s
Motorcycle Legends & Museums ride). The one trouble with this method is that my route to the Welsh and South West Peninsular rallies are very similar from Edinburgh, and the route to the Brit Butt Rally only goes halfway down the country. I might need to come up with something else as well but that can wait for later in the year once I’d seen how many points these trips got me.
The landmarks were issued in March as usual. I’m always impressed with the number of landmarks that they can come up with every year, so a huge thanks has to go to everyone involved in pulling this together, it must be a huge task.

I managed to find all of the landmarks this year so I plugged them all into my mapping program and picked them off during the course of the year.
By the end of the year, I’d managed to visit 47 landmarks this year (an increase of 19 from last year) for a total of 1215 points. That only just makes the criteria for Gold, so I was beginning to regret having to cut my Scottish Rally short this year, and missing out on two high scoring landmarks. On top of that, one of the landmarks I did visit, a rope ferry, had the rope, but no ferry. I’d taken a photograph of said rope, as well as the pub next to it to prove I was there, but would it be enough?
Thankfully, it was, and the rest were all passed meaning that I got a Gold Award. Can I improve on this next year? It could be tricky. I’d have to make trips specifically to pick up landmarks on this rally, particularly in the South East. It’s a long run from Edinburgh and back, but I tend to be competitive by nature, so I might just do that.
My photos from the rally can all be seen on my photobucket page.
