To make the most of the journey down, I planned to pick up some checkpoints

C: Ancient Hight House, Stafford - English Counties
D: Worcester Cathedral- English Counties
E: Gloucester Cathedral- English Counties

Since you get a couple of weeks to plan your route for this rally, I planned to go for a Gold Award. Since I was travelling all the way down from Edinburgh it seemed a waste to do anything less. In addtion, I'd try and pick up some more Grim ride locations along the route.
My planned route was as follows:
A: Kelways Inn - B: Somerton - C: Stalbridge - D: Winterborne Whitechurch - E: Car Park Café, Dorchester - F: Swyre - G: Old Police Station Café, Princetown - H: Widegates - I: St Neot - J: Stenalees - K: The Green Parrot, Perranforth - L: Tintagel - M: Widemouth Bay - N: Bucks Mills - O: Swimbridge - P: Withypool - Q: Bridgetown - R: Waterrow - S: Wrangway - T: Kelways Inn

Although this style of rally doesn't require you to take any picture of the locations, I did manage to take a few snaps for posterity...shame I can't remember where they're all from two years on as I write this...
In addition, I picked up the following Grim Ride locations:
Nine Stones - Standing Stones
Dartmoor - National Parks. In a weird quirk, this smiling chap (sorry I can't remember his name) happened to have moved from Scotland 30 years ago, and his wife used to live next door to my son's school. He's also sporting the natty t-shirt that you get free on completion
Tintagel - Letterboxes
The Bude Light - Millenium

I really enjoyed my first taste of checkpoint rallies, finishing up with a Gold Award, although some of the roads that my sat nav decided to take me were a bit "agricultural" to say the least. The staff manning the checkpoints were really welcoming and helped to break up the day. Again, I planned to take in some more Grim ride locations on the journey home.
