2014 rally
My entry for the third year has already been posted. Just need to wait until March before I can get the checkpoints and start planning for real.
I've used last years checkpoints to try and pin down a suitable route to take in the Lands End Award this time round. Dawn has decided not to come down for this one, to let me go for it with a vengeance...well, with longer runs between stops anyway. I've got a route that gives me about 2 hours leeway, including fuel stops.
Of course, the checkpoints are likely to change, but if I remember correctly they're more or less in the same places so it shouldn't be too far off. The only thing I haven't factored in yet is any Round Britain Rally or Two Wheel Poker checkpoints I might want to pick up on the way round. I'll concentrate on these over the Grim Rides since these are year specific but try not to be too greedy and take on too many. After all, the main focus should be this rally and the Lands End Award.
This year, I'll try and provide more pictures from the rally itself, along with some of the documentation that is sent out, just to give you all a better idea of what's involved.
UPDATE
Now that the Two Wheel Poker and Round Britain Rally locations are out, I can plan my route to the B&B. I can't show all of the stops, due to the restrictions on showing Round Britain locations, but I'll get something up soon.
27 March
The rally pack arrived at the weekend. Now it's time to start working out a route that will get me the Lands End Award, so that's 3 manned checkpoints (probably Dorchester, Princetown and Perranporth), Land End itself and 15 unmanned points in between. I'll plan to start at 8:30 (to give me time to stand in the queue for registration which opens at 8:00) and finish at 23:00 (to give me time to pick up other rally points and a bit of leeway for delays). I can drop some of these other rally points during the course of the rally if I'm getting behind schedule, or start to feel tired and want to finish earlier.

1 April
No it's not an April Fool's joke...I do actually have a plan! I've got three routes ready for the day. The first is the bare minimum I need to do to get the Lands End Award. The second adds in enough checkpoints from Grim and Round Britain rallies to give me an hour spare. The final one adds in a few more, but only gives me 10 minutes to spare. I'll keep an eye on my time on the way round, and I can decide which to go for as I fall behind, or get ahead of schedule. My route down, rally route and route home are below.
